*Colton Ford looks like I feel*

Good morning and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

And yet another edition of my writing journal.

Well, it's 430 am and I'm awake before work. Been up since two. Why? Well that's because the plot bunnies were a callin'...

Now mind you, I just finished a short story and I'm about to do another for a good friend before I do the full later on in the year. So, I really only have edits to do but in my infinite wisdom, I decided to write out all the stories in my head right now and place them in a doc.

This has happened before! When I had story ideas I put them in a doc with just details, pics of my characters, etc. However, when I cleaned my HD on my laptop, I accidentally deleted these files. GAH! Big mistake but I didn't worry too much because they were still in my head. In addition, I have others actually written out on paper with pen. WHAT A CONCEPT! No one can read it but me! :/

Anyways, to make this long story longer, I recently decided to try getting more organized for 2013. One of my goals was to make a schedule of all the books I was going to write for the year and when so I could mak my goal of 500k and 10 50k novels. Well, guess what? I stopped at like March. Why you ask? Because all my ideas were still in my head and I said, ooh, why don't I put them on paper?

Since I'm already slightly ahead of the game with part one of the Wretched finished, I attempted to accomplish this last evening

Much like the picture depicts above they attacked me. Almost every idea I'd been thinking of was in a doc with pics, small details, some with titles others without. Some had the pseudo already underneath and some didn't! EEK! Some had nothing but pics and a sentence. Jesus! This sort of alarmed me so I had to share this post with you. Lots of incomplete ideas that needed to be formed ended up on pages. And in looking at them, I'm thinking I have enough ideas to last me the next 2-3 years. That's not counting the ones I've written on paper in my chicken scratch!

So what is the lesson learned here peeps? You can't really PLAN the whole year out. I can say, okay, this year I'll write Through the Darkness, finish AS, write the Incumbent, etc but I'm not sure i can say, this month I'll do this story, the next I'll do that one. It must come naturally.

That's unless you have submission deadlines. This year I only have 3. The Wretched every other month, a sub for the military antho for IRM, and the GRL charity antho. These are the only deadlines I must make for now. Other than that, it's a free for all for the plot bunnies to race to my head first and say, hey I wanna be written, NOW BITCH!

Wow, I'm amazed at the power of the brain, how it's able to retain information and in the head of an author that could be a dangerous thing. Unfortunately, active muses don't really know how to behave. In reality though, do we really want them to?

Nah, I don't. Better to have a bunch of ragged ideas than none at all!

Oh and lastly? It doesn't help when you see new pics or videos like the one I posted up above of Colton Ford. Now I want to write an m/m story with an older singer and his younger lover... :/

Thank you for listening to me ramble

Well hello again! This is my end of the year blog.

Anyways...
What's that? Wait you say? It's not the end of the year?

Well, it is for me, sort of...

I'm ending the year now as I prepare to do my last new book for 2012, Michael Mandrake's I Like Em Pretty A New Orleans Noir

Check out my post for my goals of 2012 here about what I accomplished last yr.

I'm very happy to say, I pretty much stuck with my plan and finished stories, did editing, and tried to improve my craft.

In 2012 I had 9 releases, 5 more to come, 3 of which are self pubbed. To date, I've written almost 390K and I finished Nano 3 days ago officially. I'm truly stoked at what I've accomplished this year and looking to do even better.

I can say I've learned a lot more about the business and the tech side of writing too. I took 4 classes, 2 about plotting and worked closely with a fellow author who is my beta and editor.

I really didn't sub this year but once and it was rejected but I know what I didn't do and I'm looking forward to putting the book out on my own.

Now, I'm not intimidated with self publishing. Michael's book has done well in these first 4 weeks, mostly on All Romance. Nah, were not making money like EL James but hey, we're pulling in some royalties.

As always, I'm optimistic. Having more than one beta helps as well. Nothing wring wrong with an extra pair of eyes to find errors in a story. Going into this coming year, I look forward to completing a few stories as well as revising others to be subbed or self published. Here's a list with some changes going forward into 2013 and 2014.

Michael Mandrake

Vertigo 2 (revise)

Under the Gun (2, 3, 4)

African Sun book 5

Through the Eyes of Darkness

Closely Guarded Edits

Untitled Twin Vamp Shifter

Rawiya

Trois in Treble (revise)

African Sun book 4

Smooth Like Latte sequel

Masquerade (revise)

Lessons in Ink (Revise)

Something About Jayden

That Thing

Sugar Daddy Sequel

BLMorticia

Losing Inhibitions 2

Candyman edit and sequel

You Don't Ask Sequel (Rolled last 3 books into 1)

The Wretched Series

Taming Wild Horses

*** I also have a couple of series the muses will be doing together

Triple Play baseball Antho

College m/m series

Safe Antho

Admittedly, self pubbing has given me confidence to put out a stories on my own, which means it has a good chance of coming out in 2012. I'm also looking to do free reads more often which is the only thing I didn't keep up with.  I did do a few throughout when I signed up for prompts but I'd like to do a long one to be downloaded and shared on the blog.

So, it's going to be very busy. I get tired just looking at it. Still I'm thankful for all the success and hope that you'll try following along with my progress.

Thanks for listening and I'll try getting here more often.

Wow, good Saturday Morning! *blinks*

I'm still awake. I should be asleep but I'm not.

Can you believe this freakin' year is almost over? OMG. I know I can't but here it is, the beginning of November. It's almost time for Turkey Day, then Black Friday, then that dreaded holiday called Christmas! Yeah I said it. I'm NOT ready as per usual.

Even though this one shall be a little easier since I'm working the day job. Means a little more money to burn and the royalties this month go towards the bills and maybe a couple of things I'd like.

*AHEM* Back to the blog. I posted the pic of the man opening the shades because it's a symbol of how I feel about my writing and the steps I've taken to improve.

In the beginning, I think I was so elated that someone actually wanted me to publish and then I wanted more, and more, that I continued to sub at the speed of light.

Reading the past updates made me smile. Working on 7-8 stories with dates I didn't really make. Some of them I did but how many days did it ACTUALLY take me to finish Closely Guarded and Wild Horses?

Shit, almost a year but I did it.

Anyways, getting back to my point. I have a better idea of the business and what works for me and the muses. Yes, since they are the brains behind my books, I have to give credit where credit is due.

We know we can't work on multiple stories at once. We'll mix up voices. We also know, keep styles separate. BL with the snark, Michael with the characters who are comfortable. Long winded style of writing, big words, etc and Rawiya, interracial, down to earth, all contemporary.

Yep, I got it down now. The muses don't cross over all that much anymore. BL and Michael do because of the similarity in some of their characters. Alpha men, military, strong males with strong personalities, quick wit and mouths that might get them into a fight. Their paths do cross on occassion but Rawiya is a style all her own.

More than that, I don't really worry about subcalls. At least this year I didn't. I concentrated on stories of mine that needed finishing and now, I have almost a clean slate for 2013 with only Trois in Treble, and a rewrite of Vertigo 2 and Lessons in Ink to do.

I mean sure, there are series to finish, sequels but as for the stories not done, those are the only ones left. *intention on pubbing* Yes those, not fanfic.

I'm very excited that now I have a better idea and choose my writing goals wisely. My plan of attack is better as well as my eyes that are more capable of spotting simple editing mistakes.

I also learned a lot from my fellow writers and betas who've helped tremendously. No, I'm not perfect but damn, I think i'm a ton better than what I was.

I suppose when most start out, they begin totally raw which is how I started but now, I figure I know a little more and am pleased with my progress.

I'm going into this with my eyes opened wide, knowing my limits and expectations. Also, paying attention to the market, readers, and fellow writers.

Yep, this gal is ready for the challenges that lie ahead! Bring on 2013 and skip err, the festivities.

I'll try to come back more often and speak!

Good GOD!

I havent been here in the longest. One reason? LJ keeps getting hacked and there were plenty of times I couldn't get in. Grrr

Well I'm here now and I figured I'd come back and just update what I've been doing...

Working, WRITING, enjoying time with family and friends. Not in that order though. Writing is last on the last.

1. Computer problems
2. Learning and reading other authors
3. Fear of burnout

That last one especially. I fear if I overwork my muses I might burn out like I did in 2010. I did Nano, I did Slash fics for xmas. By early 2011 I could barely write without getting disenchanted.

Also, there was a point I felt I wasn't good enough. I started feeling like the sales were more important than my actual love for writing which they aren't. I got discouraged, I stopped blogging for a while, I started doing everything else other than writing, Not to mention, I started working the Day Job and getting home, not wanting to write anything.

Then a revelation. Mostly from author friends as well comrades. Don't measure your success against others. The love for writing began to come back and well, sales got better too. *yay* No not like EL James but hey if I can pay a few bills and feed my family its a good thing.

Now it just needs to be more so I can do a little of both. Pay Bills or support family AND get something I'd like. Also, enough to put back into promo would be nice which I have done to a small extent.

Still, the most important thing authors must remember is, your work is like your baby or child. You care a lot for it and when it doesn't meet your high expectations, you're disappointed. So you sulk, cry, drink, eat chocolate and hope it gets better. You also do what you can to help the process along. Which I've done and thankfully, I'm seeing better results.

Out of the 3 names, Rawiya does the best. It might be because her romance is overly sensual, can be funny and very relatable. Michael hasn't done a relatable book just yet and BL, well, she does what she wants. Still her books do well also especially My Lieutenant.

I want them all to have that one book that knocks everyone's socks off. None of them have done that yet. I'm proud of all my pseudos and what they've accomplished to the point and working to get even better. Editors, betas, classes, reading others more often. Its all part of the plan.

Will it work? I know it will. :D

WIPS

Working on

Taming Wild Horses (How long have I said that?) Im actually doing it though. I hope to finish next Tuesday

Trois in Treble  (Ditto)

Vertigo 2 I've finished it but it needs rewrites

I also need to finish the YDA and Under the Gun Series. They both have 4 books.

BL is doing the Wretched Series and all want to do a baseball bk for next yr

Good morning all...

Welcome to Taboos today. I couldn't wait to do the writing revelation so I could let you know what happened during the week.

About 3 weeks ago, I got an email from my pub, XOXO, the owner, Gina, specifically about some news she wanted to tell me over the phone.

Now, naturally I was like, um, what is it. I worried, wondering if it was something bad.

We kept missing each other and so on but finally we spoke on Wednesday.

What an exciting thing to hear that A Second Chance was XOXO's 2nd best seller on Amazon!

WOOT!

OMG! I was so shocked!

Here I was thinking, A Second Chance wasn't doing all that well on Amazon but suprisingly, a lot better than I thought.

Now, b4 my good friends get overly excited, I'm not even near the top 100 overall at Amazon but as a new writer, especially relatively unknown and a writer of gay romance, this is huge.

She also paid me compliments about my promo stretegies, and reassured me both books are selling well from Amazon and the website.

Let me tell you, I am completely floored!

When your pub tells you how good you're doing and gives you great news you can't help but feel great. She told me she can't wait for us to get out my first paperback which will be True Meaning 2 and I'm very excited to do more books for XOXO since she said, someone from another publisher told her XOXO's quality of books was better than her own company's books.

Made me very happy.

Yes, stroking, coddling, hence the picture above, we all need it but when a writer gets coddled and complimeneted, it makes them feel so much better because its such a lonely business. You also have your days where you hate your own writing. (Had a couple of those lately) To have people say, hey great job, really makes a difference.

* * * *

Okay so... Where am I now?

I'm about 15k in for the Jude Vamp/My Sexy Vampire Story. I'm hoping it should be done by tomorrow night.

Once I get done, I have to fix my hetero short for my pub, NNP, then I'll be starting my new story right after that, The Captain of his Heart for a subcall due 10/31. Then Back to Taming Wild Horses b4 I start My Lieutenant 2 which I'll be looking to finish by October 31st as well for my pubs Val call.

November, I'll only be working on Closely Guarded for Nano and Im hoping to finish b4 the end of the month so I can take the rest of the year to work on my unfinished stories like Lessons in Ink which needs edits, Mi Familia to get it ready for pub next year, as well as Trois in Treble.

I'm really looking forward to it and welcome the challenge.

I'm really close to making my goals. I only need 5 more acceptances for the year and then I'll have my 20.

Better get crackin!

Thanks again for listening!

Happy Monday morning, hope you're enjoying the labor day which is a sign for most schools that summer is over and time to return,

Well, it is for my kid. THANK GOODNESS.

For those who have kids, do you get frustrated when you take them out in public and they act as if you haven't taught them anything? That doesn't really happen to me, even with my threee year old but I've seen it in stores where parents try to stop the kid from touching things, running down aisles, or screaming at the top of their lungs.

Argh.

Most of the time, the parents give the glare or they threaten to hurt them. *laughs*

That's what I compare my muse to at times. Not the writer muses, the characters. They're like little kids that do something you don't want them to, but in this case, I let that muse do what it wants.

Example? African Sun!

It was supposed to be a hetero suspense action series with my only gay participants to be the villains and my bisexual Doctor Nicholas Fairlight.

Well, I ended up with that but with book three completed, my hetero hero isn't into the heroine any longer. He's fallen for my doctor! YIKES

This mght not make my editor too happy but I went with it. It's so intriguing to have the characters go on and do what they want. AS was the last story I'm just letting it do what it wants and fly by the seat of its pants. Since I learned how to do short plot and the character arc where I find out the characters motivation and his goals, the muse is a little more controlled.
;
Doesn't mean they don't throw a wrinkle in there however. :D

Still, whatever they do, I let them run amok in the story because that's what I want is an interesting story. Might not please alot of traditional folks but we and the muses, writing and characters, do it for ourselves first!

* * * *

Soooo Where does that leave me?

AS is almost done. I have about 3 scenes left in there that should finish the first draft. At this point, the story is at 52k which makes the series 188k. WOW! I never thought that would happen.

Mi Familia is at about 35k now. I'm looking to finish that this week as well. It was hard to concentrate on both effectively so, alas I'll finish AS most likely today and do Mi Familia over the next 3 or so.

That only leaves Taming And Closely Guarded which I plan on working on after I finish the Halloween subcall for my publisher to do my vamp M/M, My Sexy Vampire.

Then 2 more subcalls for the 31st of October and 1 in November where I'll be writing with another author.

Very excited about that.

The goal is to finish 2 of the calls before I leave on my trip in October,

Thanks for listening!

Good early morning!

I'm up particularly late because most of the day I had a sinus headache/migraine, something that kept me from enjoying the light and my family. *grr*

Anyway, I did do a lot of editing on my latest WIP, Out of Bounds, or the Professor as it is newly titled. I also came up with more stories, following the same theme. DAMNMUSES!

I also discovered something else. If I do a short, I cannot do it unless its a big SCENE. One scene. Not over several days in writers time, etc. It must be only one encounter, with a combo of ideas.

One of the latest for my new pub, Naughty Nights Price is a hetero, *shudder* of a m/f I did when I first started writing. Oh yeah, there is more I could add to this story, however, because my head is in novella/novel mode, I've needed to train my mind to only write one scene with different emotions, maybe only 2 or 3 characters and these have proved to be under 5k

Otherwise, I have a long novella over 10k or 12k thats either two long for an anthology or bursts into a series of shorts... *grumbles* No, this is actually a good problem.

My fave editor keeps telling me that longer stories will fare better for me, which is true. The longer your story, the more in touch your audience can get in touch with you and your characters. They can't really connect in a short. Its only to invoke a chuckle, or a turn on, or something to get you to go, ooh hmmm...

Well, thats what those two are. I hope they make it. If not, they'll be free reads or the beginning of something new for me to write. Most of them have turned out that way if they werent accepted.

Longer stories, here I come! :D

* * * *

So, I'm working on Mi Familia and Sakina. It felt great to open up the WIP for AS again. I'll be working on this and Mi Familia looking to finish both by Sept 5th or thereabout.

Then on to my Halloween story for XOXO which is a novella based on a short I already did and then 4 more subcalls. 3 for Oct 31st and my own for Nov 30 to XOXO.

During that time, I'll try to complete Taming and Closely Guarded as well but I'd like to get the subcalls done b4 my trip in mid October.

Thanks for listening

Greetings folks...

You might ask, why do I have Superman as my picture for this week? We'll that's because I'm realizing I'm no longer Superman or woman.

*winks*

My muses can no longer work together the same days, they must be separate. I can turn out stories at the speed of light, sort of, but only when 1 muse is working. Sure the others can stew but the one that's in focus, must stay in focus.

How did I discover this?

Well over the past couple of weeks, I've been looking to get my WIP down before I start to travel in October. I've almost succeeded. Getting a lot done, 2 and 3 stories in last than two weeks, etc but it couldn;t have been done if I didn't make the changes.

No more mixing voices. I work with BL stick with her work, I wk with Michael, stick with his work, its the only way to make progress.

Don't start anymore stories and I mean this one has been hard. The evil plot bunnies have been biting me, and I do mean biting. Over the last few weeks that Ive taken this new approach. I know I have at least 10 new stories, half Ive wrote synopsis for. Only one, I plan to actually do for a subcall next month and that one has been in my subconscious for years.

So what have I learned? I cannot work faster without efficiency. Working smarter. It might take me longer to sub now but I've narrowed down what I want to do anyway. :D

****

UPDATE

So, I have 6 stories on the WIP list

True Meaning 2 is at 20k plus. Im looking to finish by August 10th

Taming Wild Horses, 10k looking to finish by the end of August

Mi Familia I have a date of Sept 15th

Closely Guarded Sept 30th

AS and Sugar Daddy no dates.

For the time being, Ive removed Trois off the list. I really would like to get 2 of Michael's stories done b4 going back

My new story must be done by August 31st and I only have 3 subcalls, to complete

Real excited about my progress and now, I have a new WC meter on my blog to keep count

http://tabooindeed.blogspot.com

I'm also doing a challenge with Twitter friends, #aug40k, 40k in the month! WOOHOO! Im ready!

Thanks for listening

(Pictured Greg Plitt my model for Captain Morrie in You Dont Ask)

Good morning...

Welcome to Taboos and Perversions... the Literary Triad's place to get thoughts down on paper.

What have I discovered this week?

I can no longer work on several projects from all muses at once. I mentioned that last week too but it ties in with this week.

I see that writing from one voice and focusing on one project at that particular time makes my muses happy.

No I can still multi task but when I sit and work. Work on one muse and if its multiple projects, only work with that ONE MUSE.

No more I have to do Rawiyas projects with Michael's. This gets them all mixed up.

Over the past two weeks I have completed 3 projects BL's Dont Ask and Last Night Rawiya's Lessons in Ink and Something New on the Menu in between  29k, 25k, and 12k respectively. Yesterday in particular, 7k on one story.

Very awesome. Ive done about 5k in a day maybe 6 never seven.

The key is, the muse felt comfy knowing that she, Rawiya, was the focus. Her voice was also correct. The more sensual, sweet, romantic I've been looking for. A tad more sap. *laughs* Thats what I need when I begin writing more hetero again as well as my MMF muses that desperately needs to return to finish Trois in Treble.

Yay!

I'm really excited about this sooo now that I've made this discovery, the key is, to wk in the same voice. BL and MM are somewhat silmiliar because both of them like more of the angst. However, when Rawiya writes, she needs her own time. They all do, but especially this muse so I can bring my sensual erotica to where it needs to be.

*****

UPDATE

So with that, Lesson is done...

What's left?

True Meaning, AS, Taming, Closely Guarded, Mi Familia, all Michael's stories. Sugar Daddy I've put off for the time being because it will be contracted as part of the Menu series through NNP. More on that at Rawiyas in a moment.

Trois I will pull out this week to hopefully finish by Friday. I think it needs some tweaking and then I should be able to effectively revise and finish to sub.

I do have a subcall to finish for BL today and edits on Vertigo as well to do over the next two days to send to my publisher.

I have 3 subcalls for August to do too and 2 for September to write the synopsis on as well.

Thanks for listening as usual!

Greetings fans!

Welcome to Taboos and perversions and um, I'm really excited about my revelation this week.

Wow, took me forever to discover it.

*bangs head on a desk*

Anyway, having 3 pseudonyms its hard to keep up with voices or styles. I'll be blogging about this somewhere this week. Forgive me, I did 6 yesterday so I cannot recall which one it went to. 0.o

Just keep up with me on Literary Triad or Twitter and you'll see.

anyways, yeah so, as me and the Wicked gal were working on You Don't Ask i figured out what all 3 of them like to write as well as their voices.

Do you recall a post I did sometime ago about splitting them up as far as genre?

Well, just throw that out. Its one of the fab things about being a writer is you discover more about yourself and your craft and since I have 3 personalities, I need to find the correct styles for all 3.

Now, Michael first - Michael is my gay man, loves doing stories about manlove right? As do the others. However, my gay man will only do tales where the men are already comfortable being gay. they are looking for that special someone and well the voice? Michael is eloquent, long winded, has a dry sense of humor.

Rawiya Also loves gay male fiction/romance will do MMF, hetero as well. She is my more sensual voice, might spend a bit more time with the characters in the bedroom. The way she speaks is more romance novel like. I discovered this while writing her most recent stories, lessons in Ink and the new subcall story Perfect Day. Rawiya also like stories where the men in her tales are still unsure and part of their tension is finally discovering themselves and how much they love one another. She loves that struggle

BL she does everything with humor as you know. She'll also tackle anything, more so than Rawiya. Her voice is a lot more of the wham bam type. Some rough sex with bondage or control element. Some sensuality but more of the extreme goes into the types she writes.

Now, all will use the styles if the characters and or story ask for it. For example, in A Second Chance by MM, his character Daniel Declerc is a smart ass.More of a BL character but it fit the tone of the story and brought it to life.

In AS, Michael gets more sensual for his love scenes, using Rawiyas style because it is an erotica romance.

Get it?

LOL I know, its hilarious but I feel this is what will help me when I submit as well as what subcalls or storylines appeal to me. Now I truly know which one will write what but there will always be a little bit of all in each one if necessary.

****

UPDATE

Oh yeah, recall the order of priority I put up last week. *throws paper behind back* Scrap that

Here is the one that should stick!

You Dont Ask/BL - 20K in, EEK almost done. Should be done today and will be in edits the rest of the wk b4 it goes to the publisher I have written 12k on this story since last Tuesday

Lessons in Ink/Rawiya - Next to be finished. 2 more parts to write then edits

Trois/Rawiya Real close but I have changes to make. so I'm making this 3rd

True Meaning 2/MM Not nearly done but I feel I should get it done by mid august

Taming Wild Horses/MM About 10k in.

Sugar Daddy/Rawiya Just sent the Synopsis for this to my publisher. One of them anyway. We'll see if she'll like the idea

Closely Guarded/MM You recall this was supposed to be for a call. Wont wk! I wont make it. More writing to be done and I need to really focus on this one.

AS/MM 30k in. I see it at halfway. I havent worked in it in a while. I do plan to get back to it this week.

Mi Familia/MM 20k in. I do see this close to halfway done. I wk on this weekly since its followed on my blog and on Gaydemon and Literotica

Alrighty then...so...there you have it! I have also figured I wont be doing this again. To keep the voices st8, I just cant have this much going on at once. If I have 3 MM stories, meaning Michael going on, I really cant work on the others effectively.

Thanks for listening to my rambles!

Greetings people.

Welcome to the Monday Update!

A little earlier this week than last week...

:P

Anyway, today's lesson is why I love being a writer!

SQUEE!

New covers and author copies! (Author copy Sweeter just came today far left)

New covers (Michael Mandrakes Photogenic in Tina B's and A Second Chance Michael's new novel. BL's My Lieutenant)

Love looking in the inbox and seeing the covers from the EIC Editor in Chief or the cover artist! WOOT

I love having 2 editors, with the same name, tell me they love my writing and want more! (Happy dance)

Love having my fave editor tell me i'm still in his thoughts even when he has other better writers to take care of.

Free books and the love of fellow authors. Oops did I say that outloud? 0.o Its true though. So many of the authors share their books freely! I have done the same even though I dont have that many

Gaining new fans and the few i do have sending me cards or emails telling me how appreciate they are of my work.

The support of the author community! For the most part, everyone no matter what genre, has been cheering me on.

Lastly, the muses keep channeling me and running me ragged with new plots and details in my sleep or even when out partying. (Last night)

So many reasons! Notice I didn't mention money. Why? Hasn't really come yet but in small increments which are always helpful but, not the most important thing.

The support and love as well as the passion to create keeps me going!

Nothing is better than that

*****

I don't really have any witty revelations this week.

Just woke up :P

The muses have been busy in my head so we started another story and will do another this week.

Currently, we have 7 WIP's

African Sun
Mi Familia
Taming Wild Horses
Trois
True Meaning Two
(New) Closely Guarded
Lessons in Ink

Now, on that last one, I regarded it as finished right?

Well, the muses had more to say on this one after it was rejected by a publisher. They gave the usual reason, doesn't fit our needs which made me think they didn't need anymore gay stories and when I went back through it to revise before submitting it to another, they started talking again! :/

Why does that happen?

Dunno.

But as I discussed in last weeks update, I'd rather have a finished story than unfinished.

Btw, Closely Guarded is my M/M/M. It might have some "closed door" hetero scenes since my main character is bi.

Closely is based on a fic I wrote and the good thing is, its a lovely plot that was able to be turned into something good.

So there you go!

We also have plenty of short stories we want to do for sub calls as well as Edits which this week includes Masquerade.

Today, I'm starting the long version of "Sugar Daddy" which will be awesome!

Last week, My Lieutenant and A Second Chance were contracted.

Thanks for listening

Happy Monday and welcome to the Weekly Update!

WOOHOO! I'm so excited to say that Vertigo is finished. YESS!

Now truly, in the life of a writer even when you type the words, the end, it doesn't mean it's necessarily over. it only means the toughest part, getting all your thoughts on paper is done. The next part is the hardest, editing, revising, to make it sound coherent.

So what about when that ending you just typed was unexpected?

Vertigo's author is my gay man, Michael Mandrake.

When he and I sat at the table, writing the last of Vertigo on Sunday, there was an internal discussion as to how it would end.

Should it be happy ending where all the characters get what they want and live HEA (happy ever after) or should it be a bittersweet one?

Well, because I listen extensively to my writer within, Michael, and the characters, they chose the bittersweet ending which I won't go into because I want you read it when it comes out! ;P

However, I will tell you that it shocked me, how it came out and how effortless it was for me to write this controversial ending. COMPLETELY FLOORED ME. I was so shocked, I tweeted and Facebooked about it...

My muses are demons, what the hell, blah blah

*laughs*

As you know, my Vertigo tale is a paranormal so, anything can happen there. And my character, David, (my model David Taylor above) really surprised me with what he wanted to occur.

So, what have I learned? As a fellow author who I respect in the genre told me, write whats in your heart. Don't change it because you might think it's unpopular with the critics. Follow your inspiration and muses, which I've always done and will continued to do.

I've come up with some really interesting things and I'm sure as I get better as a writer, I'll have more surprising stories and endings to tell!

*****

So, in the post, VERTIGO DONE! WOOT!

I'm really happy to at least have the general ideas on paper. Now, as I said, comes the hard part. Revising, editing...etc. My editor is still working on Binding Justice so he can get it out for a May 29th release. After that, it will most likely be Imperfect Lover he'll work on and then Vertigo. He also has a gay western antho he'd like me to be in, so that might come before the others.

As it stands, these are now my WIP's

Trois in Treble (MMF) Midway point
Mi Familia (Ongoing gay menage) No end in sight
Lessons in Ink (gay romance) getting back to that!
African Sun Part 3 No end in sight
A Second Chance - Still going on this one. I've put it down a while so I could work finish Vertigo. Now that its complete, I will pick it up again.

I have a few subs I'd like to do. A hetero involving a curvy woman, my pirate story which is pretty much done, just some revising, and the gay western antho due by June 1st. That last one I will start on Friday or Saturday. I'd like to go on and get these shorts done this week.

This week, I will also be revising The Masquerade which I've been posting on Free Fic Friday on LJ. I found a potential publisher for it and will be doing some revising and major editing and I hope to get it to the publisher by months end.

Now, I am shooting to get Lessons done and the 2 short subs before starting the gay western!

Also, my fanfiction muse is hungry! Been writing shorts and it would like me to do another big story. So, the goal is to finish 2 of the ones Ive been working on and start a new chapter one next month when the calendar for subs is light and I have Masquerade and the gay western done.

I have no dates to finish Trois and AS! They will just continue until the muses have been satisfied.

Ta for now!

Good morning folks! Today's LJ update on the Triad is talking about distractions!

Whew. Why would I pick that photograph? Well besides it being absolutely gorgeous and different, it is one of the things that distracts me from my daily writing. Not just that  photo in particular, but all outside forces.

What am I saying? Facebook, Twitter, email, any electronic device. How about those important distractions like family; two kids hubby!

Then comes the other ones, people working on your house, your stresses. These all play a big part in my life right now and yes, they take away from what I love most: to write.

How do I deal? Well, when I have serious writing to do, I looked at the advice from a fellow writer, who says she turns off her wireless. That way, if she does get the urge to Tweet or FB, she wont be able to. Did that! ;)

Family? I'm lucky my mom takes the kids on some weekends, this happened to be one of them so I did get some extra writing done. Also, I write at night when the whole house is asleep, so hubby and the kids are gone to bed.

The house? Write when they are gone, or if I have blog posts to do, which I have plenty, get those done and leave serious writing till later.

Stress? Unfortunately, that really doesnt go anywhere but, I do try to relax my mind and put on music or clear my head b4 I sit down to write. Sometimes that stress comes out in the story and if it does, there is times it fits and other times it doesn't.

This weekend I think I wrote about 5k on African Sun and Trois combined and I know I put some tension in there. It might have even fit the plot! EUREKA!

So, thats how I deal. Has it been successful? Yep, to a point. There are times its failed, but for the most part, I fight distractions with the right plans.

That social networking is addictive btw!

*****

Ohh! WOOHOO! Guess what? I did actually finish a story. Did I say that last week? I dont think so.

My Lieutenant is in the capable hands of a dear author and friend. She's looking it over to see if I had a clue what I was talking about. lol so, one less WIP. Of course, it goes into edits but that's always separate.

Got alot down on AS and Trois, FINALLY! Me and Dina, (the heroine in the MMF) settled how she would be a more integral part of the story so I hope to get Trois moving in the right direction. No date of completion was set for either AS or Trois. Just letting them ride their course until they say they are done. AS is over 13K and Trois is now at about 18K. I'm thinking AS will be about 50K.

News: Binding Justice was accepted by my editor so I'm pretty stoked. He didn't even tell me either. He put a note on my Facebook. Clever! 0.o

I'm thinking there may be a sequel for Binding... hmmm...much later!

Vertigo is almost complete! I was supposed to have it done by yesterday but alas, no... I'm hoping to get it done by Friday or sooner. The editor likes this one so I need to get it done.

Mi Familia is rolling along and my Second Chance story, I'm giving it a break so I can do some research.

So that makes 5 now? IDK, I lose count.

Oh and lastly, I was really excited to get some FF done! WOOT!

Yesterday was ff day to update the site. Worked on 2 stories I adore, and Im hoping to get one close to completion. The other no end in sight Thats my recreational writing btw. lol

All in all a productive week I had. This week more challenges as I try to finish Vertigo and hopefully make a significant dent in AS and Trois.

I've also joined a bunch of authors doing a faux NaNowrimo. 50k in 30 days. Piece of cake for me. If you'd like to see, it just started yesterday...

http://may50k.blogspot.com/

Cheers folks and have a good week!

The fingers did not want to follow the muses and subsequently, all my writing stopped the past 3 or so days.

I was working diligently on My Lieutenant till I hit a snag where I wanted to end it and the muse wanted more. I took the the time to read over notes from my fave editor as well as plot notes and such and by the time I got a clear direction, it was time to be mommy again and I was too tired to write. :P

What to do when you feel too lazy to feed the muse? Do you force it? NOPE! Do you go on and let the best rest in hopes you can continue the next day? YES

PROBLEM? If you have plans outside your writing world, that next day turns into Monday which is my case again.

I have made Sunday rest/recreation day and Saturday, I saw my musical heroes which that in itself made me tired. Panting all night, you know... :P

*laughs*

Anyway, so in essence, I have lost Friday evening Sat, and Sun to write! ARGH! Which mean  wont finish things by my own personal deadlines. Just imagine when I throw the EDJ (evil day job) into it! WOW! That will be scary.

Howvever, I cant beat myself up. All I can do is try catching up and hope when I open these stories, the words will flow on the page today when my hubby comes home and I get to do some serious writing.

Here's to finishing things this week and when the laziness takes over, the muses take a bit of a backseat. :P If I dont feel like writing, all I can do is hope for the fingers to cooperate with the muses that following day! :)

****

So that being said, nothing is finished as I'd like but I hope to have 3 of the 6 Im working on done. Lieutenant, Vertigo, and A Second Chance. The AS gang is real antsy and so is the Trois gang. Not to mention, the FF muse demands more of my attention. I hope to get a little in on all of it.

Till next time!

Welcome to another weekly update at Taboos which is filled with my weekly revelations. As I make the journey from hobby writer to fanfic writer to author to good author to erm hopefully, so damn good at it I have fans! ;)

I have a couple but...

So, on this path where am I? I'm at author... :0

Now , you might say, why do I not consider myself a good author yet? Well, for one, I haven't put out enough meaty material. Meaning, novels. as you know, they are in the works!

Two, In my estimation, there is still more work to be done on putting together plots and organizing them along with the characters. No, that doesn't mean i'll get away from my style, which is "flying by the seat of my pants" but, I do need to begin defining the character roles and traits as to how they fit with the plot. And not just with novel works, with every work.

Lastly, and most importantly, finding the right place for the Triad, meaning, let them do a genre and stick with it.

Why you ask? Well, I thought I had their styles down but apparently I don't...

When a good friend and fellow author read one of my stories, Sweetest Taboo, she told me that we really didn't know enough about all the characters. That the scenes were too short and the chapters needed to be longer.

When seeing her email, I could conclude she was right. this may sound weird to you but all of the muses do have a style that they define their own and even though they are all in my head, they are starting to get mixed up, particularly, Michael and Rawiya who cross genres and really, I'd like them to stick with one and make their names that way. BL will cross genres because she will do more of the "wicked" stuff. More BDSM, some f/f, things that have you hot and bothered in a bad way...*laughs*

Michael should be the gay man, only doing gay male stories. He can be eloquent or down to earth. Writing like a man. Guys like it to the point

Rawiya should be doing M/f or M/M/F or M/F/M, anything involving the female more fem, more down to earth, a little humor but definitely writing like a woman. We like it to be visual, more backstory

BL, as I stated, will do the wicked which means she can do any. Things with bdsm, toys, voyerism, etc... Her style? More snarky...she is the bad ass. Going where the other two rarely go.

I recall this post where I defined them. Feeling Multiple and find that I've gotten away from where thy are supposed to be.

Michael is on track. AS is a perfect balance of eloquence and down to earth. The hetero sex is pretty good and lately, the story has taking a gay turn, so he feels comfy.

Bl is finding hers. the stories that beg for her to write them, speak to her. We just wrote a tale about a woman with a strap on. Came out really well.

Rawiya seems to be the one that is still finding herself. She's starting to write like Michael (evidenced in Sweetest and Trois) The "womanly" way of making the characters feel and love is not quite showing through. I need more of that and hope to get that back soon.

So, what's my conclusion? Define my muses and stick with their styles. The problem with having multiple pseudos is mixing them up and when you have this, you lose your readers. I mean, everyone wants to try new things but, in reality, in order to keep a fanbase, you need to stick to what you works best and is proper for you. Since my muses are two girls and a guy, I'd like to keep them defined and separate. Not only that, It will make it easier for the publishers I work with as I submit more of my work.

What happens to my work, you ask? Well, I finish what I have but I think Masquerade, for one, needs to be written in Michaels tone. So, I'll be redoing it. Of course, Michael will finish AS but it will be his first and last hetero. Rawiya will write her last 2 gay stories. The long versions of Sugar Daddy and That Thing that were recently accepted by STARbooks.

This, I feel, will be the best way to not get them mixed up anymore and it will be easier to tell the tone in the story as well as satisfy my readers...

Updates

I'm still on the last WIP's but I did revise 3 shorts to be subbed to my main publisher. They'll be going out today.

WIPS

My Lieutenant
Lessons In Ink
Trois
African Sun
Mi Familia
Vertigo

This week, I'll be working hard on Vertigo,  My Lieutenant, and be turning over Lessons in Ink to Michael.

Once I finish these, I'll be working on Sweetest and Trois

Mi Familia is going real well. Its getting readers at all locations. Most feedback coming from Gay Demon and Literotica

I'll continue on African Sun and since its with my fave editor, it has to stay in Michael's name because that is the only pseudo he is working with.

My goals are to have all the above except AS and Mi Familia done by the end of the month.

The fan fic muse is alive and well. I just finished one and I aim to do another before weeks end.

Well, that's all for now. Hope you got the gist of what I was saying. Being a writer you must find yourself and your niche.
I hope to get this straight as I continue the journey to being a successful author.

Back with another update!

When you think 5 for 7 its a pretty good ratio, right? Unless its 5 out of 7 Lottery numbers...nope, not unless they have prizes for that.

Well, I did 5-7 submissions this month and it feels great to say I met those 5. 1 accepted, 1 rejected, still waiting on 3 more for the month of March. Not bad.

I could feel myself beginning to feel like January when I began to question my muses. Of course they are fighting back.

On the Trois story, I'm feeling I wrote too much of my gay couple who has yet to invite their female into the relationship. She just began speaking to me so what can I do. 13K in and she's finally talking.

So, I wont be making that deadline but I'm set to send my fave editor the first 3 chapters and the dreaded synopsis this week.

His words? I'd rather have an MFM but okay. lol

I'm pretty excited to have the next two months with very little deadlines.

5 for April - One is almost done, 3 are less than 8K Max. The big one I'm still deciding if I want to do it.

1 for May which I have basically written, just needs changes.

I'm trying to avoid writer burnout before more busy months come when I'll need my fingers to cooperate with my muses.

So, I made those five and I'm happy.

****

As I stated 5 for April and 3 of them are pretty much written.

I started AS III The Beauty Within which made my good friends happy...you know who you are.

Why you ask? Well, the AS Muse wanted to make sure I at least STARTED it before the April. They had thoughts and since i just killed a character and bringing in another, I had more to write.

So as it stands I have 5

African Sun

Trois MMF

Vertigo

Lessons

Lieutenant

I hope to get 3 done by months end. :)

Plus fanfic muse is calling. I'll be writing a couple at friends requests.

Till next time...

desiresdd17: (Default)

Greetings!

Today, being March 15th, is a deadline for one of my publishers. If you can recall, I spoke about doing a Mobster story for STARbooks. Well...erm...I had an idea and because me and my muse could not wrap our heads around it, it fizzled.

So, I have decided to forego the subcall, and move on to the next one which is due in five days. It is a hetero with a twist. *snicker*

Why have I done this? Well, one, I don't want to submit a story just to submit and two, I feel, that if I really wanted to do this story, I would've done it by now.

Usually when my muses speak, I listen, or I'm bullied into doing so. BL, who was going to write that one, says she'd like to get My Lieutenant done. Michael Says to get back to African Sun and Vertigo.  Rawiya says, do Lessons in Ink and Trois. So see, they all have other things that are more important and the idea though there was not fully developed enough to go with. So, I'll put it only with the other 100 or so story Ideas I have stored in my brain and on paper. Not even counting, the stories on my laptop that could use an edit or a completion! LOL

Listen to the Muse! It will not steer you wrong...most of the time...

:)

****

UPDATES

So now, the updates.

I have 5 WIP's working :

My Lieutenant
Vertigo Part 2
Trois In Tune (Sub call due April 1st)
Lessons in Ink
Mi Familia (Free Read)

I have 3 other sub calls I need to do. 1 for the 20th, 1 for the 30th, 1 for the first of April

I will also be getting back to Sakina as I await the last words from my publisher.

I still have 6 calls unanswered. Sakina 1 is one of them.

My fanfiction muses are dying... lol they need to be fed. I have 5 stories I need to finish for my ff fans.

anyway, thank you for listening. This is the place to hear my rambles and such so if you like me, stay  tuned...

Till next time...

Updates 3/8

Greetings friends and people who generally like me... *laughs*

As some of you know, the past few days have been tough. I had someone run into my car and keep going, my insurance lasped so that meant I would have to get my car fixed out of pocket.
UGH!

This subsequently gave me no happy mood to write even though I trudged through the last of Lose Myself to finally end it for my publisher.

I believe it turned out okay since I didn't know about my car until later on that evening. I haven't wrote since Saturday night, I been reading ever since.

I find out better news yesterday so today, I'm feeling a  bit better.

I just posted more of my free read that wont be public till Friday.

I'll be starting my three new stories for deadlines between today and tomorrow, Trois in Tune an interracial menage, my gay mobster story as well as Time to Make the Donuts. It will be for another sub call due March 30th.

I also have another story that came to me for another sub call I had only lightly considered.

I'm sending in two today for two different publishers. Wish me luck on that.

:D

TY for all the support.
